I remember when I was a kid, 17 years old, when we were anticipating one of the greatest floods in North Aurora's history. My father and neighbors knew that we were going to get a lot of water and that it was going to be bad. We lived below Timber Oaks, in the valley. Water was overflowing out of the retention ponds and breaking out of the Fox River's banks. We called, begged and pleaded for the fire department to lend us help with sand bags (as they were giving them out to residents of Timber Oaks), but they said no. Oak Street, Elm Ave, Maple Ave., and many of the neighborhood streets off of route 31 flooded immensely. I will never forget the disservice they gave to us during that flood. Timber Oaks did not get a drop of water. They were high and dry so to speak. Thanks NAFD!
